I am honored to be participating in the upcoming event, Local to Global Justice teach-in event at Arizona State University. Local to Global justice is a two day annual event, which seeks to connect local diversity, sustainability, social justice, and human rights issues to larger global struggles. It has become an outstanding space for the sharing of experiences and knowledge between scholars and activists working on a wide range of social justice, human rights and sustainability issues. The goal of this event is to bring together students, faculty, and community members to learn from one another through analysis of contemporary social problems (and their possible solutions), while promoting diversity, freedom of speech, and academic freedom of discussion. This years focus is Justice for Women, Justice for all.
There are many amazing lectures, workshops, panels, free food and live music (Sugar Thieves and Of the Earth) and I am particularly inspired by amazing activists and keynote speakers, Mercy Musomi, and Andrea Smith, Ph.D.
I will be teaching a free Morning Wake Up Yoga class on both Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:45 to 9:30, and Sunday following the yoga class I will be presenting a workshop from 9;45-10:45 at 1050 S. Forest Mall, Tempe, AZ 85287 (map).
My workshop will address the following:
Shifting the Paradigm: Restoring the Feminine Power by Remembering the Eco-Self
It is my intention to introduce the connection between concepts of eco-psychology, mindful living, and environmentalism, all on behalf of the greater feminine (nature) power, which has been significantly neglected of the course of our historical development.
In this dynamic workshop I will briefly discuss the correlation between women’s oppression and the severance of man’s relationship to the Earth. Through a simple historical analysis I will explore how the current matrix of industrialized and agricultural living was built on a systematic method of obtaining power through dominating, controlling, regulating and oppressing both women and nature.
I will discuss the ways in which we currently identify to the natural world and how this affects not only our social and sustainable evolution, but also our personal, feminine evolution. There will be significant attention drawn to the remembrance of the Eco-Self as an extension of nature’s incredible power, resilience and adaptation. By respecting and honoring the Earth (feminine), we have greater respect and honor for ourselves, and vise versa. I will introduce positive, life-affirming practices that will promote integrated and harmonious living within our individual self as well as our collective self.
By not only understanding these concepts, but most importantly, encouraging the embodiment of them, we can collectively bring a sense of renewal and restoration to the Natural world and the feminine Nature of Self. It is time to address the way in which we identify and connect with the natural world, and this change must originate deep within the psyche and deep with in our Eco-self remembrance. It is time to dissolve the illusion of separateness and realign with the greatest power, true nature.
Blessings,
Robin Afinowich
